Meg Garlinghouse
VP of Social Impact, LinkedIn
The corporate responsibility space has evolved dramatically over the last 40 years. It was once widely believed that corporations' primary responsibility was to create value for its shareholders. Today, the new norm has become that corporations need to provide value to all of its stakeholders – the community, environment, employees and customers. Most recently Paul Polman, the former CEO of Unilever, has posed an even more clarifying and inspiring question: "Is the world better off because your company is in it?"
In this Top Mentor session, based on more than 25 years of working at the intersection of technology and philanthropy, Meg will provide coaching on how your role as a social impact practitioner can help lead your company to create a mindset where "leaving the world better off" is a way of doing business and ultimately better for business. Specifically, she will help you identify where the core and unique assets are to leverage, how to build buy-in among execs and create a culture of believing among the employee base.
Meg Garlinghouse is VP of Social Impact at LinkedIn, where she is responsible for identifying partnerships and programs that leverage the LinkedIn platform to create positive social impact for the world. Garlinghouse has over twenty years of experience working in the technology and philanthropy sector. Prior to joining LinkedIn, Garlinghouse spent almost 10 years building and leading Yahoo!'s global community relations function. She also has a background in international development, working for the Asia Foundation and the World Bank, and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, West Africa, running projects designed to raise the socioeconomic status of rural villagers. Why
Mentorship is a unique way to develop your skills. Mentors help you grow as a person, via listening to challenges, offering personalized advice and giving honest feedback.
Typically, the best mentors find people to help in their network - making them difficult to access. Top Mentors make these incredible people available to anyone.
Who
Anyone can apply for one of 15 openings. Our mentors create their own applications that look for the skills and motivations where they can add the most value. There are no degree or level prerequisites.
How
Each mentor has their unique style, but three things remain consistent in all Top Mentor sessions.
First, we believe mentorship works well focused on a specific topic. We ask each mentor to specify the area where they want to help, and not offer generic career advice.
Second, we aim for intimate sessions. Each cohort has 15 people, a size that lets you be honest about the challenges you face and get real support.
Finally, all sessions are interactive, leading to more dialogue, growth and learning.
Where + When
Mentorship sessions with Meg will be virtual, taking place from
9:00am - 10:00am PT on November 15 and 30.
You must apply by November 8, 2021.
